The Twilight Saga Revisited: The Book and The Movie
By MiciROX. Posted in Book Review, Fantasy, Movie Review | 11 Comments »So I watched the newest sequel to the Twilight franchise, and I have to warn you….. it’s not as terrible as people think it is!

I’m a fan of the Twilight Saga, but I kind of get why for the most part only Tween fans are raving about it; it’s not exactly Shakespeare or Anne Rice
. So if you read to enrich your literature knowledge or something, skip it.
I like to review movies and blockbuster buffs usually agree with my tastes. But with Twilight it will go something like: you like all these cool things but you have to ruin it all and like Twilight!
For the most part I’m confused too….. I mean, why can’t they like it??! LOLOL!
Sure, it’s not the best movie out there, but it’s NOT horrible! I watch movies every week, so I would think I’m a good judge of blockbuster movies. And I definitely won’t say it’s a good film just because I am a fan.
With all the good movies out this year like Iron Man 2, Prince of Persia, A-Team, Toy Story 3, Karate Kid, Knight and Day, etc. (apologies, they are coming out much faster than I can review them =P) I was honestly not looking forward to Eclipse. I mean, I read the book, so I didn’t feel that I would get something new here. But yeah, I should know that Books and Movies are two different things.
And for Twilight, I think you can hate the book, but rave about the Eclipse Movie.
THE BOOK AND THE MOVIE
I think Twilight has a good plot, but what we have here is a failure of really developing it. There are a lot of minor story lines and characters that I wished could have been enhanced a lot more.
But that is why it can make for an awesome movie adaptation.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why the Harry Potter Movies can NEVER beat the book by J.K. Rowling. There are just so many things happening there that no way can it fit the recommended max 2 1/2 hours to keep people interested in a movie. And I think when J.K. Rowling was writing the first few Harry Potters, she didn’t picture it in the big screen. She envisioned that world in a place with limitless possibilities; her head– no way can a mere movie capture that.
But this is where Twilight is different. Stephanie Meyer actually said that she wrote Twilight picturing it as a movie, so from that she has already set boundaries for it, which is just excellent for film makers. From the book they have a good plot and a light script; the makings of a good blockbuster.
This is rare for me, but I liked the Twilight movies better than the books.
Converted into a movie, they took out a lot of the prolonged mushy stuff and just got the best lines and parts. The very few fight scenes in the book are really lame when I picture it in my head (remember when Bella fainted in the first book and we didn’t get to read anymore about how the Cullen fight with James went? I really think Stephanie got lazy. LOL!)
I really like fight scenes, which is why Eclipse is my favorite; just because it actually has one! (And the fact that Eclipse is where the Edward X Bella X Jacob love triangle gets the most intense isn’t bad either =P). I was really excited how they will execute the Eclipse fights in the big screen, and I was not disappointed! Wow. (Jasper the military guy was insanely hot there, but I will talk about that more when I actually get around to reviewing Eclipse. ;])
THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE
Eclipse is my personal favorite of the entire Twilight saga, and I was like, if people still don’t like it this time around, then I give up.
I actually think Eclipse is the one that can make or break the entire movie franchise (3rd times the charm), where it can cross that boundary of being only liked by Twilight fans, to really making it into a must-watch movie phenomenon, and make non-fan movie buffs have a change of heart.
P.S. There are a bunch of fail stuff in Twilight, but that’s not enough to make me not love it. I am a hardcore fan, and here’s proof: The Way I Loved EDWARD and JACOB (Taylor Swift Song Lyrics Modified) + Twilight Eclipse Trailers
I wrote the lyrics of the song right after watching The Twilight Saga: New Moon. I hope other hardcore Twilight fans out there will like it. =)

@ buy tea online: I have to agree with that, but as mature adults, it is our duty to understand these lost souls

I’ve seen the first movie, it didn’t really like. It doesn’t make me want to see the next ones. I find the movie kind of cliche

Movie-wise, Eclipse is the best among the three so far. Understandably twilight was not that good because of the low budget. But then it was a big hit so New Moon and Eclipse were improved. The whole saga is targeted to mostly teenagers who likes love stories and was not written in an award-winning way (the kind of writers like Anne Rice and Sidney Sheldon) that is why not too many book-lovers like it.

Personally I’m not fond of twilight. I find it very destructive. Personally i find Bella to have a sexual deviant. Falling in love with a vampire is a necrophilia, that is love for the dead. on the other hand having a werewolf friend is a tendency to love bestiality.

@ Jovit: I think you hit it right on the dot there. For me, best sellers are best sellers for a reason… and that is because they connect to a wider set of audience. A good read doesn’t have to be award winning, it just has to be a good read.

@ Shakira: If you watched the Eclipse movie you would see there that Bella and Edward are kind of pretty old fashioned… all there really was to it is a classic love triangle and a choice.
I think a lot of people see vampires and werewolves and automatically condemn it as a bad influence… but I think that you just have to take stories like Twilight as it is, and that is, a nice story.

@ Ron: I’m glad you like it too! Really looking forward to the 4th movie, they say it will be shot in hi-tech IMAX technology! Woot! Can’t wait!

@ Blanchir dents: Now that I think of it, I think every movie is just reconstructions of past movies, which makes cliched plots cliched for a reason, and they are awesome because they ARE cliched.
A lot of movies would have the same theme, but it’s the details I look for, which I think ultimately makes each cliched movie experience unique

Twilight the original first movie is by far the best , the second not bad but they just seem to get worse (my wife wouldnt agree), but its all about the teen factor so the following just keeps growing , can’t beat good old lost boys though
