OMG Now that was something. I can’t stop smiling right now.

I’m so in love with him, I mean, the film, yeah :] But you know, Jake Gyllenhal a.k.a. Dastan wasn’t bad. He’s like only hot and stuff, he did his own stunts (even learned Parkour), he’s witty and humorous, a little shy with the ladies but still dashingly adorable, he learned to speak in a British accent, at times he had his shirt off to reveal his 6-pack abs… Oh, and he’s the Prince of Persia :P

David Belle is not human, like seriously. Parkour is awesome!

Believe it or not, I didn’t have big expectations with this film, mainly because I labeled it as a Disney flick — and forgot that it was for the most part a Jerry Buckheimer Production. Pirates of the Carribean anyone? I’m so gonna celebrate if it becomes that big, and you know, get 3 more sequels. But if not, I’m happy I did my part spreading the word and supporting it.

And I was supposed to watch Shrek this week! I mean Shrek’s pretty cool and everything; but let’s face it, he’s no Jake Gyllenhal (pronounced G-len-hal). Man was he not only hot (Yeah I know I said that already; can’t say that enough) but also a very talented young actor. He also knows how to have chemistry with a girl (or a guy, for that matter. Yes, think HARD which movie you saw him before), and he did his own stunts– DAMN is he the whole damn package! Oscar and blockbuster worthy! I can’t wait for more of his films (I’m going to relive his past ones, and you know, hope for more Prince of Persias).

I haven’t gushed this much about a guy, I mean, a film, since Robert Downey Jr. I feel they’re alike in so many ways. They can definitely act, and at the same time have a totally wicked sense of humor. I’m having a hard time deciding right now between them… but what the heck, I’ll take them both. I don’t want to play favorites :] Yeah, I’m into older men, they have this appeal to me. Experience is sexy right? ;)

THE GAME

.

In any case, the film was based on a video game. A really RPG-ish type at that. The graphics look fantastic, and Avatar Dastan looks a LOT like Jake (didn’t I imply he was absolutely perfect for the role?) And the Tamina-ish girl character is hot too. (Hey, there’s one for everyone, it’s not all Jake ;]) She wears a real flimsy outfit and there’s even a kiss scene! Kind of awkward looking though as the 3D movement looks mechanical, but it’s okay. The game looks plenty epic though. I’m sure Prince of Persia game sales have surged having the movie out. The story is not exactly alike but I hear the main plot points are.

.

.

And if they can turn Prince of Persia into a real live action flick; what’s stopping them from making Final Fantasy? PLEASE make my year Jerry Bruckheimer!!! Anyone up for petitioning that?

INTRODUCTION
So to the actual film! At first it reminded me of Aladdin at it was about a ‘street rat’ who became prince because of his valor. Here though it wasn’t the process of becoming prince; right from the very beginning the king took him in because he saw a man not hungry for power, but for what his heart said was right.

From a boy in the streets to the life of a prince, not too shabby. But he wasn’t at all pompous or snobby, in fact, his favorite past time was rough housing on the streets with his commoner friends.

.

ELEMENTS OF THE PRINCE OF PERSIA MOVIE THAT MADE IT AWESOME

The Hero
There’s just something about Hero films that touches your right there. A street kid taken in by the king not because of heritage but his valor? That’s an awesome start right there. And you will of course be looking forward to how he turns out, how he ultimately fulfills his destiny.

.

The Traitor
So a hero film is not complete without a dastardly evil nemesis with a carefully crafted plot to bring him down. A street kid part of the royal family? What nonsense! That just proves how deranged the king is, and why he has to be replaced, by me! (MUWAHAHAHA!)

So Dastan is framed and everyone thinks he killed his father; but everyone in the right state of mind should have this question: What could possibly be his motive? He loved his adoptive father the king who raised him like a son. And even if the king died, he was not next in line for the throne– his brother was.

In actuality, the reason he was framed was because he was able to get hold of a certain golden intricately carved dagger containing sand, that he did not know what was for– yet.

The Damsel…who kicks butt

Before all the confusion of the king dying (supposedly at the hands of Dastan), they were able to take down a supposedly allied territory caught smuggling weapons. The high priestess, Tamina, who ruled the land argued their country was innocent, but she was still taken into custody.

.

At the time Dastan was dashing out the palace as people chased him believing he killed his father. Tamina took advantage of the situation by hitching a ride. From here, a very unlikely couple (a street rat turned prince and pure bred royal priestess) set on their journey to set everything to the way it was.

Tamina didn’t pick to escape with Dastan by random actually, she knew he had the dagger; that had a mystical ability that Dastan did not know yet.

The rewind at the end– wicked! *Time will erase everything*

Of course, it wasn’t such a smooth ride. For one thing, they loathed each other. Well, he invaded her palace, and she tried to stab him, so it’s totally understandable. The feeling is very mutual. What he couldn’t help retaliating at is her accusing her of being a royal blood pampered prince through and through, because of the way he strut. His response, to me, was epic. You see, as we know he wasn’t born a prince, but hand picked to be one.

“What you see is the walk of a man who lost everything.”

.
The Love-Hate Relationship
Ah, classic. A good start and now an even better follow up. They’d quarrel all day and can’t stand each other, but somehow something draws them back together again no matter how many times they get separated. They’re like soul mates, fate will find ways to bring them ever closer together.

When Dastan pulled his horse and attempted to leave Tamina alone in the dessert.

Tamina: Nobel Dastan leaving a helpless girl in the wilderness.
Dastan: Help me god (or something like that, lol)

But of course, slowly, but surely… they drop their defenses.
When Dastan effectively placed a note in his uncle’s pocket in his heavily guarded father’s funeral (with the whole city out to get him).

Tamina: All the more proof you’re insane.
Dastan: Why do you sound so impressed?

When Dastan effecitvely got through palace guards back to Tamina.

Tamina: You could have been killed.
Dastan: Is that concern?
Tamina: It’s caution.
Dastan: You used to be a better liar.

Ah, it’s the start of something alright.

Uh-huh. Wicked.

Tamina: We must take the dagger to the secret guardian temple. (to its rightful place)
Dastan: No I can’t let you do that.
*Reaches Hand*
Tamina: You’re going to help me?
Dastan: We can stay here and chat or you can get on the horse.

It’s Love alright.
When Tamina was supposed to sacrifice herself to return the dagger.

Tamina: I’m ready for this.
Dastan: I’m not.

.
The Brotherhood

BTW, the traitor was not the eldest brother, it was the evil looking uncle after all… Like OMG, wasn’t that a HUGE surprise?!

I like how this movie valued family above all else. When every piece of evidence was going against Dastan; what moved his brothers to still hear him out? It’s that trust, instilled to them by their father. They were not related by blood but are still brothers after all.

My fave part of the movie was actually when Dastan stabbed himself after telling his brother about the dagger being able to turn back time. He eldest brother furiously wondered why he would do that, and the evil uncle said that Dastan was a coward.

A coward? Dastan was many things, but not a coward.

In any case though, all his family members actually died in this film. lol Poor Dastan, but don’t feel too sorry for him.

The Destiny

This is my favorite part. I really believe in destiny so this is my kind of movie. Whatever happens, somehow, everything will fall into place in the end. Everyone died actually, his father, his best friend, his brothers, and the love of his life…

So he was just left with just one person in his life. Sadly, it was the same person who betrayed him and killed his family and friends, his uncle.

They are now in a furious battle for the dagger, and all the holy sand is pouring out of the rock…talk about intense!…

The Time Travel
…and then Dastan was right back to when he found the dagger.

“Releasing the sand, turns back time, and only the holder of the dagger knows what has happened.”

Exactly. (You think you have it bad? You have NOooOOoo idea how many times I have heard this line said over and over and over compiling stuff.)

So he accused his uncle of being a traitor, before he was able to do anything really. lol Everyone thought he was insane. But in his words were the truth, and his brother believed him. Especially when his uncle tried to attack Dastan from behind.

Dastan to his uncle:

You have everything a man could ever dream of. Love, respect, and family, but that wasn’t enough for you, wasn’t it?

So now they are in the palace of priestess Tamina, and oddly enough the eldest brother offered his brother Dastan for marriage.

The savior of your kingdom… Not a prince by blood, but every bit a brother.

So Dastan is back to his usual bashful self in front of the beautiful lady he loved, but did not know him yet. He then offered the golden dagger. Realization sparked in Tamina’s eyes.

Dastan: Returned to the rightful owner.
Tamina: That’s a short time to change one’s mind.

Walk with me.

.

Dastan: We don’t know each other enough princess, but I look forward to the day that we do.

I believe we make our own destiny.

Right on Jake, right on. ;]
