Let’s face it, even if I said it was not great, you’d still watch it right? I mean, it’s IRON MAN for goodness sake, its appeal is of EPIC proportions and it has already been immortalized as an ultimate superhero icon. Stan Lee really did an outstanding work, only a great mind can think of such a shallow but complicated character.

It’s like Batman with all the monetary resources but with amped up armor and hi-tech weaponry. The upside is that he doesn’t have a secret identity and he knows how to have fun. He’s got fame, fortune, ingenuity, and girls, what more can a guy ask for?

And to top it all off, the lead is played by Robert Downey Jr. Like hell yeah! I can’t think of any other actor who could have played Iron Man better. He is born to play this role. He’s witty but subtle, goes to show that you can be funny without all the slapstick humor. And he’s like the ultimate ladies man; he’s rich, smart, and attractive. He can use a little lesson on manners, but who could resist this bad boy?

The story actually picks off from Iron Man 1, where he revealed that he is in fact THAT metal crusader. Now he is Time’s (Iron) Man of the year and is undoubtedly the most famous person on the planet. He has this lopsided appeal, his witty antics are a sure crowd pleaser, and he really knows how to work the audience. This resulted into a super inflated ego.

“From the ashes of captivity, never has it been a Phoenix metaphor was personified in history.”
(He was referring to him being kidnapped before but come out victorious.)

A video of him would be sure to get millions of hits on Youtube. His trusty smart computer with a sexy voice Jarvis even said:

“How refreshing to see you in a video with your clothing on, sir.”

LOL, so does that mean Tony has video scandals? Oh, I’d bet on it. And the best part is; he could not care less, which is part of his charm.

Now, the complicated part about having a really cool “weapon” or “hi-tech prosthesis” as Tony liked to call it, is that the government also wants it for military purposes. Of course Tony Stark is not stupid, if Stark Industry’s can be stolen, what more for the Iron Man suit which can be considered the ultimate killing machine if placed in the wrong hands? Lucky for him, he has the rest of America on his side.

Thing is, not everything is as well as it seems. The device in his chest that is keeping him alive is also slowly killing him by polluting his blood that is rising in toxicity. If you are Tony Stark and you knew your days were numbered, what would you do? Oh, I’d follow Black Widow’s (Scarlett Johansson) suggestion:

“I’d do whatever I want to do with whoever I want to do it with.”

And if anyone knows how to party, it’s Tony Stark.

OMG did you SEE his briefcase suit at the end?! And to think a previous Iron Man Comic he had to have like a hundred people to help him put it on. Thank god for literary innovation.

(Pepper actually warned Tony about her.)
Tony: Where is she from?
Pepper: She is from legal and is a potentially very expensive sexual harassment lawsuit if you keep ogling at her like that.

Pepper: So now you’re Googling her?
Tony: I thought I was ogling her.

Tony: I want one.
Pepper: No.

So he throws a totally wild party where he gets drunk in his Iron Man suit. Pepper tried to get Tony to let everyone leave but he just stated that the party was over like an hour ago, but the after party starts in 15 minutes, and he added:

“If anybody, Pepper, doesn’t like it, there’s the door.”

Everything gets out of hand when he starts blasting glasses and watermelons. His African-American military friend Rhodey could not take it anymore and starts restraining him with his soon to be War Machine suit, and this is where things get ugly.

Tony: Contrary to popular belief, I know exactly what I’m doing.

So it turns to a small version of Armor Wars where they literally tear the house down in the process. In the end, his military friend flew off dejected. He hoped Tony was right in saying that he could protect America, but apparently he was wrong. So he flew off with the metal suit and handed it over to the American Military.

Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow) had literally no idea what had gotten in Tony. First he made her CEO of Stark Industries and now she is frantically trying to salvage the company along with covering up Tony’s misbehavior.

Tony even made her gross omelettes one day and asked to spend time with her in Venice instead of having that party, and as she did not know Tony was dying, she said she had a lot to do being CEO.

Pepper: Did you just make that?
Tony: Yeah, where do you think I’ve been these three hours?

Pepper: Did you bring me strawberries? You do know the one thing in the world I am allergic too is strawberries.
Tony: See, I’m getting better at this, I knew there was a correlation between you and this.

Pepper: I’m trying to do the job that you were meant to do.

With Tony’s behavior being uncontrollable, of course S.H.I.E.L.D. had to intervene. After his smashing (pun intended) party, he flew to a donut store and is now perched in the donut hole.

Nick Fury: Sir, I’m going to have to ask you to exit the donut.

Nick Fury knew exactly what was happening to Tony, even the slowly dying part. Black Widow, whom Tony thought was just a super hot secretary, was actually an undercover agent for S.H.I.E.L.D. and was recording his every move.

Tony to Black Widow at one point later on: You’re a triple imposter, I’ve never seen anything like it. Is your name really Natalie? Do you really speak Latin?

*says something in Latin*

Tony: What does that mean?

Black Widow: It means you can drive yourself home or I can have you collected.

Nick Fury: Contrary to your belief, you are not the center of my universe.
Tony: I’m sorry I told you I don’t want to join your super secret boyband.

Nick revealed that Tony’s father was actually a founding member of their organization and that his father loved Tony more than he thought. Nick gave Tony strict orders to check out some of the things that his father left for him.

Nick Fury: I got my EYE on you.

In a box were some old notes and film. Tony plugged that in to see his father’s video about revolutionizing the world, a video he has seen a thousand times over. What he did not see was that at the last part was actually his father’s dying message.

Tony’s father: Tony.
Tony: ?!
Tony’s father: We are hindered with the technologies of our time, so it is up to you to make this vision a reality. What is my greatest creation and always will be, is you.

Here Tony found out that his dad actually had the formula for the most efficient element not yet created. He was hindered from making it at that time, but with Tony’s resources, he might be able to make his father’s dream a reality, and save his own life in the process.

“Dead for almost 20 years, still sending me to school.”

But then he got a message from Ivan aka Whiplash, the villain who had hated Tony Stark and his family bad. He was sent to prison and was presumed dead due to an explosion, but as it turns out he was alive. Hammer from Hammer industries actually kidnapped him and offered him his resources so he can finally compete with Tony Stark and bring down his legacy. It turns out Ivan had other plans. He had decided to make drones that he can control to wreck havoc and was just using Hammer.

Meanwhile in the Hammer Expo, where Hammer was going to flaunt the drones, with Lt. Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Tony’s African American friend) in the front line with his Hammered up “War Hammer” suit. Tony got there just in time to warn everyone when the drones started moving, aimed at annihilating Iron Man. What’s worse is that Rhodey is not in control of his suit and is also after him. The good thing was that he can warn Tony whenever his suit was about to attack.

Here enters Black Widow who got information from Hammer where Ivan was and decided to track him down. He got into Hammer’s facility, kicked some serious ass and found the control room. She was too late to find Ivan there but she was able to disable the control over Rhodey’s suit.

I swear this was the Black Widow 20 years ago. LOL Man, I love it when superhero flicks have tough women in them. Check out my Kick-Ass Movie Review.

Rhodey: I should have believed you when you said you knew what you were doing, I’m sorry.
Tony: it’s not your fault.
Rhodey: No, it’s your fault; I just want to say I’m sorry.

When Black Widow contacted Tony to report how Ivan was no longer there, Tony informed her that he was no longer dying. Unlucky for him, Pepper was on the other screen.

Pepper: What do you mean you’re not dying, you’re dying?!
Tony: No, not anymore. I’m fine.
Pepper: You’re dying?!
Tony: I was going to tell you over omelettes.
Pepper: You mean you’re actually dying?!

Tony: We’ll talk about this when I’m not being chased by drones.

Pepper: Fine!

Tony: We could have been in Venice right now.
Pepper: O, please.

Black Widow: Save the honeymoon for later.

In any case, the reason why Ivan was no longer there was because he wanted to kill Tony himself with a Whiplash suit that was way better than when he attacked Tony last time in the race track. Everything seems to be at a lost when Whiplash had both his electric lashes strangling Iron Man and War machine. That was when Iron Man said he needed as sidekick. He wanted them to blast at each other at full blow with Whiplash in the middle, just like how they did during their fight in Tony’s party. It worked, but before Whiplash could die, he said “You Lose.” (That seems like his favorite word really, he has mentioned this several times in the film and he is a man of few words.) It turns out all the drones were set to explode. This was not a problem to Iron Man but Pepper was in danger.

So he flew off and scooped Pepper from harm’s way before all the drones started exploding. He dropped her in a building’s roof. Pepper started going ballistic at him, saying that she can no longer handle the stress of being a CEO and most importantly, him. So she quit, and now that technically they weren’t in a boss-employee relationship…

Tony: Weird? That wasn’t weird, it’s okay, right?

Pepper: Yeah it wasn’t weird.
*kiss again*

Rhodey: It’s weird.

Tony: What are you doing here?
Rhodey: I was here first, get a roof.

Tony and Pepper: We were,um, technically, we’re not boss employee anymore so…
Rhodey:Yeah, don’t worry, I heard everything.

Rhodey: My car was taken out in the explosion so I’m going to take your suit for a little bit.

Tony: No, it’s not ok.

Rhodey: It wasn’t a question.

*flies off*

So all’s well and end’s well with Nick Fury evaluating Black Widow’s evaluation of Iron Man/ Tony Stark.

It turns out Iron Man passed but Tony Stark failed.

Nick Fury: We want to make you a consultant.
Tony: You can’t afford me.
(LOL)

So I guess that’s it, and you should know there won’t be an Iron Man 3, but you shouldn’t be too disappointed. After the credits there is a big crater with a big steaming hammer, you just gotta know that is Thor. Avengers here we come.

Oh, and for the record, I watched this film TWICE.
